Brilliant, Shantanu! Well said about the silent stars of the film... The Mumbai rains, the background score and of course, Chakravarthy.

I met Ramu when he was doing ‘Rangeela’ and later when he did ‘Bhoot 2’ ; I so wanted him to do better , I did enjoy ‘Sarkar’ but for different reasons , I just feel ‘Satya’ had the influence of ‘Naam’ and my take or perspective is simply as a filmgoer , as an audience ! I loved the way you wrote this too !

Thanks for the kind words, Avinash.

You nailed it. We all so wanted him to do better. He showed flashes till Rakta Charitra, even with duds like RGV ki aag in between. I guess I’ll have to watch Naam again to get a sense of your perspective of its influence on Satya.

‘Satya’ was a well made film , the very best of Ram Gopal Verma’s work ; I had loved ‘Naam’ before that and that too was a different kind of film then !

Yes, Naam was another good movie. It was Mahesh Bhatt’s treatment of a much-done-before plot line of a principled, poor widowed mother of one upright and one wayward son that made all the difference.

With Satya, I feel, even the plot line wasn’t something that people were exposed to and hence didn’t have a benchmark. Agree it was his finest work.

Agreed you are a great writer. A true movie buff. But I will boldly say I didn't like the movie ( I watched it recently on my hubby's insistence). Basically it's not my type of movie at all.

Hahahaha … to each their own …

And not too sure about the ‘great writer’ bit … but yes, it’s something I like doing

I am amazed at your ability to recall so many things about well, so many things. I struggle to remember the climax of movies and you remember dialogues, screen play, etc. Great observation with concentration and add to that a fine writing style are all that is needed to be a writer. Go for it my friend

It’s only the things that really strike a chord that I remember, Sanjay! And many thanks for the vote of confidence …

Super one Shantanu . Your deep analysis of an outstanding film is so perfect . Absolutely enjoyed reading it . And of course icing on cake was your take on our gang of six in 90s and the honour of getting a special mention .

Thanks, Swapneel! It felt good writing this one and reliving that evening all over again. Though I’ve always been an avid film buff, but were it not for you first day third shows would not have happened. So writing about the gang toh banta tha. And writing about Satya would have been incomplete without specifically mentioning you. And I have to thank you for that.
